A motorcycle driver was killed and his passenger was injured after their vehicle was hit by a pickup truck along Araneta Street in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod City, early Friday, Oct. 9, police said.

The accident happened at about 12:45 a.m. in front of a gas station.

Police identified the fatality as alias “Rogello”, a resident of Purok San Benito, Brgy. Sum-ag.

His passenger, “Liberty”, sustained injuries and abrasions and was brought to South Bacolod General Hospital for treatment.

Initial investigation showed that a white Mitsubishi Strada Triton pickup driven by alias “Ranty”, a member of the Philippine Coast Guard assigned in Pulupandan, was traveling northbound along Araneta Street.

Police said the pickup was on the inner lane when, allegedly amid heavy rain, Ranty failed to notice Rogello’s motorcycle with sidecar traveling ahead and collided with it.

The pickup subsequently struck the rear portion of a traditional passenger jeepney that was also traveling northbound.

Rogello sustained severe injuries to the head and other parts of his body and was found with no signs of life by responding personnel of the Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

The jeepney was driven by alias “Ariel”, 30, of Bacolod City.

All three vehicles sustained damages.

Ranty was taken into custody at Police Station 9 for proper disposition.

Police listed reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor as the initial causes being investigated in the incident.*
