Mass interrupted after man climbs cathedral altarpiece in Bacolod

Ronnie Baldonado photoAn afternoon Mass was interrupted after a man climbed onto the ornate altarpiece behind the altar, prompting a rescue operation that lasted more than four hours at the San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod City, Saturday, Sept. 26.Churchgoers were moved to safety as police and emergency responders secured the cathedral, while traffic along the road in front of the church was temporarily restricted.Rescuers set up an inflatable safety cushion and spent several hours persuading the man to climb down safely before he jumped onto the cushion at around 9:13 p.m.According to the Bureau of Fire Protection, its personnel arrived at the cathedral at around 4:37 p.m. and began assessing the situation.The inflatable safety cushion was set up at around 4:50 p.m. ...

An improvised knife, 100 sticks of cigarettes and 115 other prohibited items were confiscated during a surprise search at the Metro Bacolod District Jail-Male Dormitory on Monday, Sept. 21.The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Negros Island Region said the surprise greyhound operation was conducted from 6 a.m. to 7:10 a.m. to check for contraband inside the jail facility.The operation was led by Metro Bacolod District Jail-Male Dormitory Warden Supt. A 40-year-old e-bike driver was shot and killed in Brgy. Handumanan, Bacolod City, on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 20.The Bacolod police identified the victim as alias “Rene,” a married resident of Brgy.
