Bacolod City to distribute free school supplies to more than 100K public school students starting June 8

More than 100,000 public school students In Bacolod City  will receive free school supplies and backpacks starting June 8, coinciding with the official opening of classes.

Mayor Greg Gasataya  on Monday, June 1, announced that the initiative will cover students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 under the Department of Education (DepEd) Bacolod City Division.

Gasataya said  the program aims to ease the financial burden on parents and allow students to focus entirely on their education.

“It is the responsibility of the city to ease the burden of parents to send their children to school, and also to enable students to focus on their studies without worrying about where to buy their school supplies,” Gasataya said.

The Bacolod City Communications Office  (BCCO) said  distribution of items is customized according to grade levels:

Kindergarten: One custom backpack, four notebooks, three rolls of Grade 1 writing pads, one box (12 pieces) of No. 2 pencils, and two sharpeners.

Grades 1 to 3: One custom backpack, 10 notebooks, four rolls of intermediate pads, one box of No. 2 pencils, and two sharpeners.

Grades 4 to 6: One custom backpack, 10 pieces of 80-leaves notebooks, four rolls of intermediate pads, two boxes (24 pieces) of black ballpens, two red ballpens, and two No. 2 pencils.

Grades 7 to 12 (Junior and Senior High School): One sling bag and one set of Physical Education (PE) uniform.

The city government will roll out the distribution directly to the public schools as the new academic year begins, the BCCO said.*
