San Carlos DRRMO honors 5 Bulacan fallen rescuers

The San Carlos City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) personnel in Negros Occidental honored Bulacan’s five fallen heroes who were killed in the line of duty during the height of the onslaught of Typhoon “Karding”.

Staff and employees of San Carlos DRRMO wore black shirts and arm bands on September 30 to observe “Black Friday” as a gesture of bereavement and to render their final respects to the “Noble 5 of Bulacan.”

The entire nation as well as the community of disaster responders and resilience officers weep in sorrow at the tragic loss of their five noble brethren, they said in their Facebook page.

Their legacy will live forever and shall inspire us to serve better, the San Carlos DRRMO added.

On September 25, the five rescuers — Agustin, 45; Troy Justin Agustin, 30; Marby Bartolome, 37; Narciso Calayag Jr., 33; and Jerson Resurreccion, 33 — drowned after their boat overturned when it was hit by a collapsed wall.

They were responding to a call to help trapped residents in San Miguel town in Bulacan province.*
