A quarrel over the COVID-19 vaccine led to a hacking incident that left one injured at Hacienda Rongo, Barangay Lalagsan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, Wednesday, December 1.

Injured was Salvador Ortega, 49, of Barangay Robles, a sugarcane worker.

The victim figured in a verbal tussle with a co-worker identified as 56-year-old Dionesio Francisco.

Police said the victim told his co-workers that they should avail of the COVID-19 vaccines or else they won’t be allowed to go to work and will not receive their salary.

The suspect then told Ortega that his vaccine shot could be fake, to which the victim replied, “ulo mo (your head).”

This apparently irked the suspect, who retaliated by punching the victim, then hacked him with a bolo.

The victim, who sustained a wound on the back part of his neck, was brought to a hospital.

The suspect was later arrested at his residence, while the weapon was also recovered.

He was released from police custody after 36 hours after no case was filed.*
