The Negros Occidental provincial government purchased 11.7 hectares adjacent to the Mambukal Resort and Wildlife Sanctuary in Barangay Minoyan, Murcia, to preserve the environment and further enhance the development of the resort.
The two purchases cost P92.18 million, Acting Provincial Administrator Alberto Nellas Jr. said on Tuesday, July 16.
The 11.7 hectares are in addition to the 24-hectare Mambukal Resort and Wildlife Sanctuary, which special patent title was turned over by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to the Negros Occidental provincial government on Monday.
The provincial government recently purchased 1.1 hectares
worth P9,562,500 from Napoleon D. Ledesma, Nellas said.
On Dec. 27, 2023 the provincial government also purchased 10.6750 hectares worth P82,624,500 from the Mambukal Resort Development Co. Inc., he added.
The additional properties were purchased to preserve the resort’s seven falls, water sources, and forest cover, Nellas said.
Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Joan Nathaniel Gerangaya said the properties adjacent to Mambukal were titled and privately owned.*
