NIR registers more than 90K new voters, women outpace men, Comelec says

The Commission on Elections has registered 90,255 new voters in the Negros Island Region so far, the Comelec reported on Saturday, Jan. 31.

The number increased with an additional 9,872 voter applicants from January 26 to 31, the Comelec NIR reported.

Negros Occidental emerged as the primary driver of these figures, accounting for 61,397 of the total applications.

Negros Oriental followed with 27,358 registrants, while Siquijor contributed 1,500.

A notable trend across the region is the higher engagement of female voters, who make up 52.9 percent of the total voter applicants.

The NIR female voter applicants are 47,786 and the males are 42, 469.

In Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, female registrants outnumber males by several thousand, whereas Siquijor shows a nearly equal split with a slight lead for male applicants.*
