Inflation in the Negros Island Region accelerated to 6.9 percent in September 2026 from 5.8 percent in August, meaning consumer prices in the region were, on average, 6.9 percent higher than they were in September last year.

Despite the increase, NIR’s inflation remained below the 7.2 percent national rate and was the lowest among the four Visayas regions, based on data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Western Visayas posted the highest inflation among the Visayas regions at 9.2 percent, followed by Central Visayas at 8.3 percent and Eastern Visayas at 8.2 percent.

The national inflation rate accelerated from 6.1 percent in August to 7.2 percent in September, bringing the country’s average inflation from January to September to 5.4 percent.

For consumers, a 6.9 percent inflation rate does not mean that all goods and services became exactly 6.9 percent more expensive in one month.

It means that the overall basket of goods and services commonly purchased by households in the Negros Island Region cost about 6.9 percent more in September compared with the same month in 2025.

Inflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose to 6.1 percent from 4.3 percent in August.

Prices under housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increased at a faster annual rate of 6.3 percent, from 5.1 percent the previous month.

Transport inflation also accelerated to 12.7 percent from 11.9 percent, making it one of the fastest-rising major expense categories for households in the region.

Other increases were recorded in alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which rose to 9.3 percent, clothing and footwear, 6.9 percent, furnishings and routine household maintenance, 10.8 percent, and health, 8.6 percent.

Restaurant and accommodation services posted 6.7 percent inflation, while personal care and miscellaneous goods and services increased by 5.3 percent.

Information and communication inflation was at 2.6 percent.

Recreation, sport and culture, meanwhile, eased slightly to 9.4 percent from 9.8 percent.*
