A 23-year-old graduating aeronautics student died in a road accident in Pulupandan, Negros Occidental, early Sunday Morning, July 6.
Christian Colindres, a resident of Barangay Zone 7 in Pulupandan, was killed when his motorcycle crashed into the rear of a car at the Negros South Road in Barangay Mabini.
Colindres was riding his motorcycle with two companions, each on their own motorcycles, heading towards Valladolid, the police said.
The Hyundai Accent driven by Glen Escalante Nermal, 34, of Barangay Miranda, Hinigaran, was traveling in the same direction towards Hinigaran.
Pulupandan Police Chief Edfel Balibadlan said that Colindres’ two companions successfully overtook the car. However, when Colindres attempted to pass, he struck the vehicle’s rear.
Colindres was rushed to the Valladolid District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
He suffered from severe abdominal injuries, the police said.
Nermal voluntarily surrendered to the Pulupandan Police Station. Authorities are awaiting the decision of Colindres’ family regarding the filing of charges.
Colindres was reportedly on vacation with relatives in Pulupandan.
He was an aeronautics student in Manila and was nearing graduation. His parents are overseas Filipino workers.
The crash occurred on a six-lane, well-lit road known for previous accidents. *
