Silliman University (SU) in Dumaguete City continues to make its mark on the international academic landscape, emerging as the only university in the Negros Island Region (NIR) included in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2027, the Commission on Higher Education – Negros Island Region (CHED-NIR) said Wednesday, Nov. 4.
The university ranked 9th nationwide, 128th in Southeast Asia, and placed within the 741–750 bracket overall in Asia out of more than 1,500 evaluated institutions across the continent, it said.
This milestone marks the third consecutive year that Silliman University has stood as the sole ranked higher education institution in the NIR in the regional QS evaluation, following bracket placements of 601–620 in 2025 and 694th in 2026, CHED NIR said.
Institutions evaluated under the QS World University Rankings: Asia are measured across 11 key indicators.
These metrics encompass academic reputation, employer reputation, research productivity and impact, faculty-student ratio, international research networks, internationalization, and faculty qualifications, reflecting institutional performance across teaching, research, and global engagement.
The CHED-NIR extended its congratulations to the institution following the announcement.
“CHEDRO XVIII-NIR extends its warmest congratulations to Silliman University and its students, faculty, alumni, and staff, whose collective dedication continues to advance academic excellence, foster impactful research, and strengthen international collaboration,” the commission said.
“Your success brings honor not only to the university but also to the entire Negros Island Region, inspiring the higher education community to reach greater heights on the global stage”, it added.*
