Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez gave close to P1 million from his personal funds on Thursday, Dec. 26, to 25 stalls owners at the Bacolod Central Market who were victims of a recent fire.

Fourteen tenants whose stalls were destroyed received P50,000 each and 11 with partially damaged stalls were given P25,000 each.

The mayor’s donation aims to help the Dec. 13 fire victims get back on their feet and start their livelihoods again, a press release from his office said.

The stall owners also earlier received assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Secretary to the Mayor Marty Go said assistance from Department of Social Services and Development – Bacolod is already being processed.

Present at the distribution rites were Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya, and councilors Jude Thaddeus Sayson, Jason Villarosa, Al Espino, Vladimir Gonzalez and Em Ang.*
