Pulupandan man killed, pa injured in shooting, policeman detained

A father was injured while his son died after a policeman reportedly shot them in Purok Maligaya, Brgy. Canjusa, Pulupandan, Negros Occidental, on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

Construction worker Joman Fuentes, 21, died while his father, Jomarie, 52, was injured after they were allegedly shot by PCpl Armen Alanza, 36, the police reported.

Alanza was assigned at the 604th Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion and is a resident of Canjusa.

The policeman was drinking beer at a store while the victims were buying beer. They suddenly had an argument and there was a commotion.

The policeman shot his victims using a PNP-issued 9 mm pistol.

The victims were brought to Valladolid District Hospital but Joman was declared dead on arrival.

The suspect was brought to the hospital after sustaining head injuries when he was struck by Jomarie using the firearm he recovered from the possession of the suspect.

Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, Police Regional Office 6 director, assured a fair and speedy investigation into the case.

The PNP also extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and explained that the PNP does not tolerate such behavior from its personnel.

The suspect is detained at the Pulupandan Police Station.*
