Two individuals were arrested after authorities recovered a stolen motorcycle during an operation conducted by the Regional Highway Patrol Unit–Negros Island Region (RHPU-NIR) at Purok Balahan, Brgy. Banilad, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, on Sunday, November 9.
The operation, carried out by the RHPU-NIR Special Operations Team in coordination with the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office and the Dumaguete City Police Station, led to the arrest of an 18-year-old man from Barangay Taclobo and a 32-year-old woman from Barangay Bajumpandan.
Police said the suspects were caught in possession of a black Suzuki Crossover 110 motorcycle that had been reported stolen on October 20 while parked inside the residence of its owner in Barangay Taclobo.
The vehicle had reportedly been pawned to a resident of Barangay Banilad.
Authorities confirmed the motorcycle’s engine and chassis numbers matched the entry in the Dumaguete Police blotter.
The recovered vehicle will undergo macro-etching examination at the Forensic Group in Negros Oriental.
The two suspects are facing charges for violating Presidential Decree 1612, or the Anti-Fencing Law of 1979, and are currently detained at the Dumaguete City Police Station.
The RHPU-NIR said the operation is part of its intensified “Market Denial Operations,” aimed at dismantling the illegal trade of stolen motorcycles and preventing criminals from profiting from stolen vehicles.*
