Two fishermen who went missing Tuesday afternoon were rescued in the waters of Linaon, Cauayan in Negros Occidental 3 p.m. Thursday, December 16, after drifting at sea for two days and two nights.
Linaon Barangay Captain Rosalie Delgado said the two fishermen were hungry and tired but appeared to be in good health.
The Philippine Coast Guard (OCG) reported that Joevel M. Tipon, 29, and Noel D. Dela Cruz, 19, from Binalbagan town went missing Tuesday.
The fishermen left Binalbagan at 10 a.m. Tuesday and failed to return to their homes, the PCG said.
They were last seen in the waters between Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, and Guiwanin, Guimaras, at 4 p.m. Tuesday, the PCG added.
Tipon said their fishing boat was hit by strong waves shortly before sundown Tuesday and turned upside down.
They used the fishing boat’s outriggers to sit on as they drifted at sea until they saw land, and were rescued.
He said they did not eat before they went out to sea and were very hungry.
Delgado said they were fed and given a change of clothes, and were set to be picked up by a vehicle from Binalbagan.*
