Mayor Gina Lizares assured consistent monitoring by the Sipalay City government to maintain a zero pig death record amid the hog cholera outbreak and the threat of African Swine Fever in Negros Occidental.

Lizares said in an interview Thursday, May 25, that she already directed the City Veterinary Office to monitor all the piggeries in the city and call on the cooperation of the hog raisers regarding the issue.

Based on the records, Sipalay is one of the cities in the province that does not have cases of pig deaths due to hog cholera.

The Sipalay CVO has been visiting the piggeries around the city to check on their situation and ensure that the hogs are still safe against cholera and ASF, she said.

Despite the threat of a hog cholera outbreak, the mayor assured that plans are in place to ensure meat safety, adding that the city still has sufficient supply of pork for its constituents.

The mayor said because they do not have recorded pig deaths due to hog cholera, hog raisers in Sipalay have been exporting their pork products outside of the city.*
