An Olive Ridley Sea Turtle successfully laid her eggs at the Sipalay City public beach Wednesday night, the city government reported Thursday, December 9.

Bantay Dagat members immediately responded to a call from a Sipalaynon who saw the turtle. The team built a barricade around the turtle’s nest and its eggs are expected to hatch by February.

The turtle, which is 66 centimeters in width and 70 centimeters in length, was tagged and released to its natural habitat, the report said.

The Bantay Dagat is urging Sipalaynons to report whenever sea creatures, like turtles, are seen laying eggs or are on the seashore so they can be protected and tagged.*
