PHO reports 418 cases of influenza-like illnesses

There were 418 cases of influenza-like illnesses in Negros Occidental from January 1 to February 10, the Provincial Health Office reported on Friday, February 16.

Isabela had 296 cases, followed by Pontevedra with 74, San Carlos City – 39, Hinigaran – 3, Talisay City – 2, and Bago City, Calatrava, La Castellana and Murcia – 1 each.

TYPHOID

The PHO also reported 80 cases of typhoid in Negros Occidental from January 1 to February 10.

Sipalay City had the most number of typhoid cases at 35 followed by Hinoba-an with 11 and San Carlos City with 8.

The PHO said 23 out of the 31 local government units in Negros Occidental had at least one suspected case of typhoid.

CHOLERA

Sixteen suspected cases of cholera were also reported in the same period, with Murcia having the highest number at six.

Talisay City had three suspected cases of cholera, Victorias City – two, and Cadiz City, La Castellana, Manapla, Hinigaran and Moises Padilla with one each.

DENGUE

The PHO also reported 110 dengue cases in Negros Occidental from January 1 to February 10, which are 44.44 percent lower than the same period last year.

The top 10 areas with the most number of dengue cases this year are La Carlota City – 10, Sagay City and Silay City – 9 each, Cadiz City and Victorias City – 8 each, San Carlos City – 7, Bago City and Talisay City – 6 each, and Cauayan and Valladolid – 5 each.

LEPTOSPIROSIS

The PHO also reported eight suspected cases of leptospirosis from January 1 to February 10 with two cases in La Castellana, and one each in Murcia, Silay City, Victorias City, Bago City, Cauayan and EB Magalona.*
