Orola calls for OHCC in Negros Occidental

Negros Occidental gubernatorial aspirant, lawyer Juan “John” N. Orola Jr., is calling for the immediate efficient implementation, operation, and dissemination of information of the One Hospital Command Center (OHCC) in the province of Negros Occidental for a better management and coordination of Covid cases.

In August the palace had already highlighted the role of OHCCs in COVID-19 response and the Department of Health and the Inter-agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases, in coordination with the Department of Interior Local Government, Department of Tourism, Metro Manila Development Authority, and Bases Conversion and Development Authority, had officially launched the OHCC at the MMDA Arena, Makati City for efficient, effective and comprehensive response to the rising Covid cases, Orola said in a press release Tuesday, November 16.

It also strongly recommends that all regions should replicate the plan, he said.

“If it is possible for them to effectively implement it, why can’t we? There is a need for us to have the OHCC functional for the people of Negros with local hotlines that can be contacted immediately and should be available 24/7”, Orola said.

The One Hospital Command Center should create a special task force committee to formulate guidelines for implementation such as referring patients to the appropriate healthcare facility that could best provide them with the care that they need, hire qualified personnel/s to efficiently manage the OHCC and facilitate medical transport and patient pick-up arrangements. This program will promote the equal treatment of Covid cases in the province, the press release said.

We should start the implementation of OHCC and proactively and efficiently disseminate the information to the people of Negros to prevent our hospitals and health care workers from being overwhelmed again if there is a sudden rise in numbers of Covid cases for us to efficiently monitor the cases in the province of Negros and properly inform the people of the steps that need to be taken in order to avoid more fatalities because of Covid-19, Orola added.

The Negros Occidental provincial government OHCC and hotline have been operational since July 1, 2021, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.*
