‘Odette’ damage to crops, fisheries, animals hits P5B

Initial Typhoon “Odette” damage to crops, fisheries and farm animals in Negros Occidental has hit about P5 billion, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Sunday, December 19.

Initial reports showed that damage to crops, which include rice, corn and high-value commercial crops at P4,379,069,801, fisheries – P13,245,000, irrigation and agri-support infrastructures – P52,736,000 and farm animals and infrastructure – close to P500 million, he said.

Damage to rice in 30 local government units was P712,771,945 affecting 20,572 farmers and 20,976.38 hectares, corn – P13,534,256 in 14 LGUs, and high value crops – P3,652,763,600 in 18 LGUs, Dina Genzola, OIC provincial agriculturist, reported.*
