A lineman from the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (NONECO) died after he was electrocuted while repairing an electric line in Brgy. Lo-ok, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, Friday morning, July 25.
The victim, identified only as alias “Jovi,” was rushed by Calatrava Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) rescuers to the Calatrava District Hospital where he was declared dead.
John Deles, Area Operations Manager of NONECO, said Jovi and another lineman had responded to a service call from a member-consumer regarding a power issue in the area.
The post they were assigned to troubleshoot was located outside a school.
While attempting to fix the line, Jovi was accidentally electrocuted. His colleague, who witnessed the incident, is still in shock and has not yet been able to give a full account of what happened, Deles added.
NONECO has assured that it is assisting the victim’s family to avail of insurance benefits provided by the cooperative and Social Security System.
Deles also said that they are still waiting for a complete report on the circumstances surrounding the incident.*
