The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office confiscated 118 firearms and arrested 23 persons, the highest among the police units in Western Visayas during their month-long campaign versus illegal firearms in August.
The Police Regional Office-6 reported that 375 assorted firearms and 65 explosives were seized, and 63 persons were arrested in Western Visayas in August.
There were 84 firearms that were confiscated through law enforcement operations while 291 were deposited, surrendered, or abandoned at different police units.
NOCPPO recorded the highest number of firearm confiscation and related arrests.
Meanwhile, the Bacolod City Police seized 16 firearms and arrested two individuals.
PRO-6 Director, Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, said that the police actions are great factors in preventing the commission of crime with the use of a firearm.
He also told the police to continue in encouraging the owners or holders of loose firearms to surrender them.*
