Negros Occidental, Bacolod to continue vax drive despite NVD 2 postponement

The National COVID-19 Vaccination Operation Center has postponed the National Vaccination Days Part II (NVD2) in Western Visayas set Wednesday to Friday this week to December 20 to 23 as Tropical Cyclone Odette approaches.

The scheduled visit of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat, Health Secretary Francisco Duque, National Task Force against COVID-19 chief implementer and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. and Testing Czar Vince Dizon to Negros Occidental to observe the three-day activity on Wednesday has been cancelled, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

Despite the postponement of NVD 2 Bacolod City and Negros Occidental will continue with their massive vaccination.

The teams and vaccines are out so they will just continue with their vaccination drive in Negros Occidental, Diaz said.

Negros Occidental has vaccinated 999,593 or 54.76 percent of its target population of 1.82 million with at least one dose, and 534,968 or 29.31 percent have been fully vaccinated, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday.

It still has 825,777 persons to vaccinate to reach herd immunity, the DOH said

Em Ang, Emergency Operations Center executive director, said they are vaccinating an average of more than 5,000 Bacolod residents a day and will continue to do so barring really bad weather.

She said with 41 vaccination sites during the NVD 2 they are aiming to hit herd immunity in Bacolod City by December 25.

Bacolod City has vaccinated 376,114 or 91.58 percent of its target population of 410,701 with at least one dose, and 315,669 or 76.86 have been fully vaccinated, the DOH reported on Monday.

Bacolod City has 34,587 individuals to vaccinate to hit herd immunity, the DOH added.*
