Negros cholera cases increase to 67: PHO

The confirmed cholera cases in Negros Occidental for 2022 have increased to 67, the Provincial Health Office reported on Thursday, December 8.

Talisay City still has the highest number of cholera cases at 23, the report said.

The cholera deaths remain at two with one each in Silay City and EB Magalona.

The PHO said Silay City has had 21 confirmed cholera cases, followed by EB Magalona with 14, Victorias and Cadiz cities – three each, Pulupandan – 2 and Manapla – 1.

Cholera is an acute diarrheal illness caused by infection of the intestine with Vibrio cholerae bacteria. People can get sick when they swallow food or water contaminated with cholera bacteria.

The infection is often mild or without symptoms, but can sometimes be severe and life-threatening.*
