Negrenses win two boxing golds, 2 bronze medals in SEA Games

Negros Occidental boxers won two gold and two bronze medals in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, the Philippine Sports Commission announced Sunday, May 22.

Team Philippines’ first gold medal in boxing was won by 2016 Olympian Rogen Ladon of Bago City in the Men’s 48kg-52kg class, who defeated Vietnamese bet Thao Tran Van.

Ian Clark Bautista of Binalbagan won the country’s second gold medal in boxing after defeating Myanmar’s Naing Latt in the Men’s 57kg finals.

Lightweight boxer James Palicte of Bago City won a bronze in the Men’s 57kg – 63kg class.

Riza Pasuit of Binalbagan won a bronze medal in the Women’s 54kg-57kg class of the boxing competition.

Ladon and Palicte thanked the people of Negros and Bago for their support and prayers.

They also thanked Bago Mayor Nicholas Yulo and Vice Mayor Ramon Torres for their help.

They made Bago City and the country proud, and we will continue to support their boxing careers, Yulo said.

Bago City will also continue to do its best to push its boxing program to create more Roger Ladons, he added.
