A man arrested in a gun buy-bust operation allegedly admitted to barangay officials that he was behind the death of a 13-year-old girl found in a sugarcane field in Candoni, Negros Occidental, police said.
Police identified the suspect as alias “Kadong,” 41, a laborer and resident of Candoni.
He was arrested in a buy-bust operation for the sale of a .38 caliber revolver (homemade) without serial number to a police poseur buyer at his residence in Purok Pag-ulinganan, Barangay Haba, Candoni, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 1, the police said.
Recovered from him were the .38 caliber revolver with two rounds of ammunition, and the buy bust money, police said.
Candoni acting police chief, PCapt. Leonel Adolacion, said the suspect later allegedly admitted to barangay officials that he killed the 13-year-old girl whose body was found in Brgy. Poblacion West, Candoni, on April 27.
Based on the suspect’s alleged account, he asked the child to ride his tricycle and offered to bring her to a store.
Police said the suspect allegedly brought the victim to the area where her body was later found and asked her for sexual favors, but she refused and threatened to tell her father.
The suspect allegedly strangled the victim and later hit her with a stone, which caused her death, police said.
Adolacion said the suspect denied sexually abusing the victim.
Police are still awaiting the medico-legal results to determine whether the victim was sexually assaulted and to establish the exact cause of death.
The suspect is currently facing a case for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act while additional charges may be filed depending on the results of the medico-legal examination and the continuing investigation.
The suspect remains under the custody of the Candoni police.*
