The tent city in Himamaylan, Negros Occidental, for residents displaced by Kanlaon Volcano’s unrest is expected to be ready by the end of February, an Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) official said Tuesday, Feb. 4.
OCD Negros Island Region Director, Donato Sermeno III, said 128 of 500 tents have been assembled as of Monday.
The tens are for additional evacuees in case Kanlaon Volcano’s alert level is raised to 4.
The ground improvement using heavy equipment is still ongoing as well as the layout of the water supply, he said.
Sermeno said Bago City has already presented its contingency plan for Alert level 4, while Canlaon City’s presentation is scheduled for Wednesday.
La Carlota City is also scheduled to present its contingency plan, while La Castellana is still being assisted in the technical aspect of its plan, Sermeno added.*
