President Rodrigo Duterte told Negros Occidental officials on Monday that he is raising P2 billion for typhoon-hit areas in Western Visayas, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Tuesday, December 21.

The P2 billion will be for the entire region, and not for each typhoon-hit province, Lacson explained.

The president said he is raising P10 billion for all of the typhoon-hit areas in the country, Lacson said.

The president met with officials of Negros Occidental and Oriental at the Kabankalan City Hall on Monday to look into their needs following Typhoon “Odette”, and to also address other concerns, Lacson said.

Social Welfare Secretary Rolando Bautista said they would provide P15,000 each to families whose houses were damaged and P30,000 to those whose houses were destroyed by the typhoon, Lacson said.

Lacson said he is asking local government units to come up with their lists so that funding can be followed up with the Department of Social Welfare and Development regional office.

The president also committed to help Kabankalan City complete its airport project on the request of Kabankalan Mayor Pedro Zayco.

He also assured Mayor Salvador Escalante of funding for the completion of phase two of the Cadiz City breakwater project.*
