Floods affect 72.2K residents, NegOcc agri damage P16.6M

Heavy rain and flooding have affected 72,297 residents in 20 towns and cities of Negros Occidental as of Monday, Sept 16, Irene Bel Ploteña Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) head, said.

There were 3,080 families with 10,509 members still in evacuation centers, she said.

Some local government officials asked the evacuees not to go home yet because heavy to intense rains were forecasted for Monday and Tuesday, Ploteña added.

Seven houses were destroyed and 85 were damaged in Negros Occidental by the rain and floods brought on the southwest monsoon that was enhanced by tropical storm Ferdie, she also reported.

Damage to crops was P15,755,845, fisheries – P398,112 and livestock P493,328 for a total of P16.6 million, Ploteña said.*
