Negros Power lineman clearing trees to prevent brownouts falls, in coma

Tree branches touching power lines are  causing brownouts, Negros Power said.*

A Negros Electric and Power Corp. lineman tasked with vegetation clearing remained in a coma on Monday after he fell from a tree at the   Circumferential Road in Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod City, 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15.

Jessie James Torremocha, 34,   from Davao City was in the Intensive Care Unit of the Metro Bacolod Hospital, Negros Power spokesman Jonathan Cabrera said.

Torremocha was a lineman of Negros Power’s contractor Carmel Light Manpower assigned to vegetation clearing.

Cabrera said Torremocha was conducting clearing operations because of the large number of trees hitting power lines and causing brownouts.

“While he was on top of the tree that was about 30-feet high, he fell when he was about to attach his harness to the next branch,“ Cabrera said.

Cabrera said because of the force of the fall Torremocha has not regained consciousness.

His family in Davao was informed and his wife arrived in Bacolod on  Monday.

“We ask for your further prayers for him and his family,” Cabrera said.

“Also pray for our other linemen, who risk their lives even in bad weather just to restore electricity to consumers, to save them from danger,” he added.*
