Flooding hits San Carlos, preventive measures taken

Mayor Renato Gustilo on Thursday, October 28, ordered the immediate clearing of clogged drainages and inspection of tributaries following flooding that hit San Carlos City as heavy rain poured Wednesday night, October 27.

Gustilo, with City Administrator Estefanio Libutan Jr. and City Engineer Franuel Luranas, also inspected the areas in the city that were flooded.

They visited the creeks near the national highway that may have overflowed and added to the water surge in some areas, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) reported.

Gustilo instructed Luranas to have the residuals left in the waterways cleaned and to create a “temporary canal” beside the circumferential road to ease water flow during heavy rains, so as not to exhaust the catch-basin beside the Citi Homes Subdivision.

The San Carlos CDRRMO reported that Wednesday night’s rain volume reached Orange Warning with approximately 27.2mm rain, which is equivalent to more than two weeks of normal rainfall.*
