The Bago City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) is continuing to deliver potable water to residents of 12 puroks in Barangay Mailum, Bago City, Negros Occidental, whose water sources were affected by the recent explosive eruption and ash emissions at Kanlaon Volcano.

So far, 20,000 liters of potable water have been delivered to 5,833 residents of the barangay, a CDRRMO report showed. They are scheduled to deliver 10,000 liters more on Thursday.

They are still waiting for the physico-chemical analysis of the water sources in Mailum to determine if the water is safe for drinking, Dr. Merijene Ortizo, head of the Bago Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said on Wednesday.

Ortizo said she is still coordinating with the city’s Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Cluster that will conduct the physico-chemical analysis.

They do not want to put the health of residents at risk, she said.

Their delivery of water depends on the request of the barangay captain, she added.

Meanwhile, the ash that fell on various parts of Bago has been washed off by heavy rain, Ortizo said.*
