A 15-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a river in Brgy. Salong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday morning, October 28.
The victim was a senior high school student, and resident of Purok Malabago, Brgy. Salong, the police reported on Wednesday.
The victim went swimming in the river with his friends and stayed by the riverbank before suddenly jumping into the water, his companions said.
He was seen struggling to stay afloat, prompting his companions to attempt a rescue.
However, they failed to save him due to the river’s depth, which was already above their heads.
The boy was immediately brought to the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital, where he was declared dead.
A post-mortem examination conducted by the City Health Office found no signs of suspicious injuries on the victim’s body.
Authorities and the victim’s family have ruled out foul play, concluding that the boy died from accidental drowning.*
