The construction of all 25 planned housing buildings in Bacolod City will continue, Deputy House Speaker and Bacolod Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said on Thursday, April 16.
The project proponents WRS Holdings Inc. and Scheirman Construction Consolidated Inc. recently requested for an amendment to its joint venture agreement with the Bacolod City government to build only eight instead of 25 buildings.
“This decision stems directly from the ongoing energy crisis in the Philippines, which has created an increasingly volatile environment for large-scale development. By recalibrating our targets now, we can ensure the Project remains sustainable and focused despite these significant external pressures,” they said.
Benitez said the construction of the 17 other buildings will be undertaken by the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), a government agency under the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
This has been approved by DHSUD, he said.
The request of the original proponents for an amendment to the JVA is up to the Bacolod City government to address, Benitez said.
The requests is pending before the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod for deliberation, Councilor Caesar Distrito said.
Meanwhile, the SHFC personnel already visited the Bacolod housing sites and are in close coordination with the Bacolod Housing Authority, Benitez said.*
