The Commission on Elections has disqualified a Negrense independent senatorial candidate from running in the 2025 polls for being a “nuisance candidate”, Negros Occidental Provincial Election Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said on Monday, Nov. 25.
The Comelec served the notice of disqualification to Johry Abagon Gargarita alias Panoy, 36, of Barangay Progreso, Binalbagan Negros Occidental, last week, Ananoria said.
Gargarita had also ran for vice governor of Negros Occidental in 2022 as an independent bet and was defeated by Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer.
Gargarita was among the 117 senatorial candidates disqualified by the COMELEC First and Second Divisions for being nuisance candidates on the recommendation of the poll body’s law department.
In his certificate of candidacy for senator file before the Comelec head office, Gargarita listed “BS Criminology” under profession or occupation.
Gargarita told DIGICAST NEGROS he had not commited any violation and his disqualification was baseless.*
