The Philippine Coast Guard arrested three fishermen for alleged illegal fishing in the municipal waters of Manapla, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

They were arrested for unauthorized fishing about five kilometers from the shoreline of Brgy. Punta Salong, the PCG-Northern Negros Occidental Command reported.

The seized fishing boats were owned and manned by Mark Jun Talaban, 36, and two others who are all residents of Brgy. Punta Mesa, Manapla, the PCG said.

The seaborne patrol operation was conducted in response to reports from crab fishers regarding the alleged fishing using illegal active gear or “budol-budol” in the area.

The PCG operatives recovered two fishing boats, two gill nets, scare lines, tom weights, and around 13 kilograms of assorted fish.

The apprehended individuals were turned over to the Manapla Bantay Dagat.

They will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10654 or Unauthorized Fishing, the PCG report said.*
