Mayor Nicholas Yulo has ordered the regulation of night events and activities that draw large crowds in Bago City, Negros Occidental, to prevent mass casualties should Kanlaon Volcano erupt.

Yulo, in Executive Order No. 2, Series of 2025 issued Friday, Jan. 17, ordered regulating and discouraging night events and activities in Bago City due to increased volcanic activity at Kanlaon Volcano that could raise its alert level to four.

This may pose serious risks to public safety, particularly during nighttime when visibility is reduced and emergency response is more challenging, Yulo said in his EO.

Night events typically attract large crowds, significantly increasing the potential for mass casualties and logistical challenges in the event of a volcanic eruption that could result in pyroclastic flow and ash fall, he added.

Yulo also said activities for the Bago City 59th Charter Anniversary from February 5-19 will be simplified and reduced.

Barangay fiestas and activities at night will also be regulated and discouraged, he said.

Regulated night events that may be allowed to proceed will be subjected to the assessment and favorable recommendation by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and approval of the mayor, the EO said.*
