
Bacolod City led the medal tally in the first day of the Negros Island Region Athletic Association Meet at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Bacolod had six medals – three golds and three silvers, a Department of Education report said.
Two students of the Romanito Maravilla National Highschool in Barangay Estefania secured gold medals in secondary level long jump events.
Gem Mark Flores secured Bacolod’s first gold medal for the boy’s category, while Aliah Bree Diocson topped the girl’s category.
Another gold for the city was claimed by a grade 5 student from Rodolfo Medel Sr. Elementary School in Barangay Tangub.
Rajib Ash Catenza grabbed the gold medal for 110 meter hurdles, overpowering other contenders from various delegations.
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental came second in the overall medal tally with 2 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals. The province also secured 11 medals in the Para Games with 6 golds.
Most of the sports held on the first day of the competition were athletic events.*
