50 former rebels join debriefing camp

Fifty former rebels participated in a three-day psychosocial support intervention and debriefing camp to prepare them to be reintegrated into the community in Camp Gerona in Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia, Negros Occidental, October 16 to 18.

The Army, police, and the provincial government of Negros Occidental led the intervention and debriefing, with the theme “Rebuilding Lives, Restoring Hope”, a 94th Infantry Battalion statement said.

The former rebels surrendered to the 303rd Infantry Brigade and are now in the process of reintegrating into the community.

They were taught skills and knowledge to address the psychological and emotional effects of their past experiences as rebels and prepare them for reintegration into mainstream society, the press release said.

Among the topics discussed during the training were stress management, coping strategies, and communication skills and the importance of self-care.

The former rebels were also taught how to identify and address signs of trauma and mental health issues that may arise during their integration.

Livelihood programs for the former rebels were also presented during the training and they also availed free dental services.

During the three-day training, the Army also held a ceremonial turnover of food packs to the participants.*
