Four minors were injured after two groups of students figured in a stabbing incident outside a school in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday, Aug. 11, a day after they were allegedly involved in a separate brawl.
PLt. Peter Genovia, Himamaylan deputy police chief, said those involved were two brothers aged 14 and 16 who are enrolled in the Alternative Learning System, and two private school students aged 16 and 17.
The two alleged suspects sustained minor injuries, while one of the victims suffered stab wounds to the neck, chest and back.
Initial police investigation showed that the two victims were returning to school after their lunch break when the brothers, who were at a waiting shed in Brgy. Aguisan, allegedly called them over to talk.
Police said one of the victims approached the group but was allegedly punched in the face.
The victims then ran toward a nearby sari-sari store, where the younger suspect allegedly attacked one of them using a ballpen.
The older brother allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the two victims.
Genovia said investigators are looking into a previous altercation involving the students on Monday as the possible motive behind the confrontation.
The two injured victims were brought to the Binalbagan Infirmary for medical treatment, while the two brothers were turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
Genovia said the waiting shed where the confrontation started is only about 50 meters from the private school and is also near the Brgy. Aguisan hall, allowing barangay tanods to quickly respond.
Stella Maris Academy of Himamaylan earlier clarified that the incident occurred outside its campus during the students’ lunch break or dismissal period.
The school said it maintains daily bag inspections and student monitoring and is strengthening its security measures in coordination with barangay officials and other authorities following the incident.*
