3 Philippine sailfin lizards turned over in San Carlos

Three live Philippine sailfin lizards locally known as “ibid” were voluntarily turned over to authorities in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, the Maritime Police Station said.

The reptiles, scientifically identified as Hydrosaurus pustulatus, were surrendered by a concerned citizen on May 6.

Maritime police personnel immediately coordinated with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in San Carlos City for the proper turnover and documentation of the wildlife species.

Authorities said the lizards were formally received by DENR personnel and will be placed under proper care and custody before being transferred to a designated wildlife sanctuary.

The Maritime Police reminded the public that the possession, transport, or trade of wildlife species without the necessary permits is prohibited under Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.*
