Wildlife conservation rules set for Mambukal reopening

When the Mambukal Resort in Murcia, Negros Occidental reopens more stringent wildlife conservation measures will be enforced, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said Monday, November 22.

The resort had been used as a healing center for COVID-19 hit provincial government employees and officials but with the drop in cases, it will be reopened as a resort for domestic tourists.

The provincial government is working towards its reopening by December 1, Diaz said.

The resort will be dedicated towards wildlife conservation, he said, pointing out that the flying fox bats have returned.

Vehicles will not be allowed in the resort, he said.

Burning that drives away important endemic wildlife will also not be allowed, Diaz said.

They are studying whether grilling food at the resort should also be banned, he added.

The flying foxes are sensitive to smoke within two kilometers radius, Diaz said.

Mambukal will be reopened for people to enjoy without degrading the environment and driving away important species, he said.

Meanwhile, the Capitol Lagoon Park in Bacolod City can now accommodate people within 70 percent of its capacity, he said.

The provincial government is still determining whether to allow unvaccinated minors into the park, he said.

They will ask for medical advice in determining the guidelines, Diaz said.*
