Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Wednesday, March 6, that there has been a slight drop in pork prices in Negros Occidental.
Maybe the drop can be attributed to Bacolod City’s allowing pork products from other areas to enter the city, he said.
However, if the Department of Agriculture feels that there is manipulation in the surge in the retail prices of pork let them investigate and make a report, Lacson said.
The DA earlier said it is eyeing possible price manipulation in the surge in the retail prices of pork in the Visayas and Mindanao.
Dr. Placeda Lemana, provincial veterinarian, said the average price of pork in Negros Occidental is now at P367 per kilo.
The highest pork price was in Bago City but last week it dropped by P5 to P10, from P410 a kilo to about P400, she said.
The lowest pork price in Negros Occidental is in Don Salvador Benedicto that is at P325 a kilo, Lemana added.
Meanwhile, Lacson said he is considering giving P2,000 each in assistance to farmers whose crops have been damaged by the drought.*
