A non-government organization that advocates Philippine folk dances is one of the of the NGOs and clubs in the Philippines that have been accredited by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) this year.
The Samahang Tagpagtaguyod ng Katutubong Sayaw ng Pilipinas, formerly known as the Philippine Folk Dance Society, was given accreditation as one of the UNESCO clubs in the country during the International Assembly for Youth in Manila on Dec. 10, its former president, Negrense Randyll Villones, told DIGICAST NEGROS.
Villones said serves as the Culture and Sports Coordinator of Philippine Normal University Visayas in Cadiz City.
The NGO, which is an affiliate of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, acts as a governing body and does promotion and research on folk dances.
They hold an annual folk dance workshop and this year, Bago City hosted the event in July.
Villones also said that with the accreditation, they aim to help in attaining some of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals on quality education, promotion of peace through cultural exchange, global citizenship, and appreciation of heritage.*
