Police officer injured after being hit by pickup

A police officer directing traffic was injured after he was hit by a pickup truck along Alijis Road in Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, on Saturday night, Nov. 22.

Police identified the victim as PCpl. Mark Anthony Saratobias, 34, and a resident of Brgy. Bagong Bayan, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.

Saratobias was assigned to the Regional Police Strategy Management Division of the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region and was assisting in managing traffic at the site of an earlier road accident when he was struck.

Investigators said a Mitsubishi L200 with plate number TSP 603 was traveling westbound when it hit the victim in front of a fast-food establishment.

The driver was identified as Gioliven Quilantang, 52, whose driver’s license was found to be expired.

Saratobias was brought by emergency responders to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center for treatment.

Police Station 8 took custody of the driver and the vehicle.

The Traffic Enforcement Unit of BCPO is leading the investigation into the incident.*
