Booster shots for HCWs begin, seniors before November ends
COVID-19 booster shots for health care workers in Bacolod City hospitals began Wednesday, November 17, while those for seniors will start before the end of the month.The government is aiming to launch the booster vaccination for senior citizens and immunocompromised individuals before December, vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said.“The booster dose protocols for health care workers are different than those of the immunocompromised, so once that is out we can already start maybe even next week. Mayor: Use of face shields in some areas still mandatory
The use of face shields will remain mandatory in some areas of Bacolod City, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said in Executive Order No. 54, Series of 2021.Leonardia, in his EO released Wednesday, November 17, said in compliance with the memorandum of the Office of the President, the use of face shields in Bacolod City that is under Alert Level 2 will be voluntary or optional in public places.However, there will be continuing mandatory use of face shields in areas declared to be under granular lockdown, and in healthcare, medical or quarantine facilities, he said.Leonardia said with the optional use of face shields, Bacolod residents are still encouraged to continue to observe minimum public health standards while participating in the widespread immunization program of the city governme...

House approves Gasataya’s bill on SUCs mental health services
The House of Representatives on Wednesday, November 17, approved the bill authored by Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya that will provide free mental health services in state universities and colleges (SUCs).Voting 201-0-0, the House of Representatives passed on third and final reading House Bill 10284, otherwise known as the proposed State Universities and Colleges Mental Health Service Act, Gasataya said.“We are hoping that this bill helps save lives and eliminates a barrier to learning through lightening the mental and emotional toll of our students who are under a lot of pressure, especially now with the pandemic at hand,” he said.The bill mandates the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to require all SUCs to establish a mental health office in all their campuses.The office...
