“This is part of our mechanization program that we are implementing nationwide and we are prioritizing Mindanao as this is one of the areas where we are seeing the continued growth of the sugarcane industry,” Almodiente said.

Zubiri thanked the SRA for the support it has given to Mindanao sugar farmers saying the recent donation of the equipment will help speed up harvesting operations and fast-track planting process that will surely cut operational costs.

MINFED also received a dump truck and a tractor for its soil rejuvenation program earlier this year as well as capability building and chemical assistance for its efforts to curb the spread of the Red Striped Soft-scaled Insect (RSSI) that has reached Mindanao.

“We are thankful for these grants from SRA particularly in this critical time as we are also working to expand the industry in our region,” Zubiri added.*
