Skittles finally gets justice

Community Animal Rescue Efforts (CARE) Inc. announced on Thursday, Nov. 13, that after two long years justice has at last been served for Skittles.

In February 2023, news of a Siberian Husky named “Skittles”, who was shot by a neighbor inside a subdivision in Brgy. Singcang, Bacolod City, and died went viral.

Chagres were file against Dominador Bangero Jr.

Acting Presiding Judge Michael Villaster of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities , Branch 1 in Bacolod City in his decision found Bangero guilty beyond reasonable doubt of the crime of violation of Section 6 of Republic Act No. 8485, otherwise known as the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.

He was sentenced to suffer the penalty of imprisonment for an indeterminate term of one year, nine months, and one day, as minimum, to two years as maximum, CARE said.

Bangero was also ordered to pay the private complainant P55,000 in damages.

Care thanked the animal welfare community, supporters and their volunteer lawyers Asia Canieso, Jacquiline Eberechi Michelle Jacob, and Gab Hagad – for their unwavering dedication, time, and commitment to the case.

“Their passion for justice and compassion for animals made this victory possible,” it said.

“Let this be a powerful reminder that animal cruelty is a crime – not an act to be taken lightly. It is punishable by law under the Animal Welfare Act of the Philippines. No one is above the law, and justice will always find its way to those who harm the innocent,” CARE said in its Facebook post.*
