A 25-year-old laborer was hacked and stabbed 16 times by an unidentified suspect in Sitio Cayas, Barangay Nabulao, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, Wednesday night, July 23.
The victim, identified only as alias “Jonas,” was found lifeless along the roadside at around 7:30 p.m., the police reported.
Lt. Cipriano Lumanog, Sipalay deputy police chief, said the victim on board a motorcycle was on his way home to a small farm when the suspect ambushed him and launched the brutal attack.
Bystanders nearby reported hearing someone shouting for help, but when they rushed to the area, Jonas was already dead.
Initial findings point to a possible land conflict as the motive behind the killing.
Lumanog confirmed that they have already identified a person of interest as the investigation continues.*
