Rape, robbery eyed in killing of mother of two in Cadiz City

BY MARK & sHIELA Rape and robbery are among the motives being eyed by investigators in the brutal killing of a 38-year-old mother of two in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday afternoon, May 21.

The victim identified as alias "Jen" was found dead in a vacant lot in Sitio Capayas, Barangay Sicaba, at around 4:30 p.m. by her husband, approximately 300 meters away from their residence.

An initial investigation by the Cadiz City Police Station revealed that the victim sustained bruises and an eye injury believed to have been caused by a blunt impact from a coconut. She was also found without her undergarments.

Police noted indications of a struggle, as the strap of her sling bag was found tightly wrapped around her neck.

Authorities recovered a coconut, a black sling bag, and a pair of slippers at the crime scene.

Cadiz police investigation showed that the victim and her husband had planned to withdraw money from a lending firm around noon Thursday. While the husband left briefly to refuel their vehicle, the victim waited at a nearby waiting shed, but she was gone by the time he returned.

Initially assuming she had proceeded to the lending firm ahead of him, the husband checked the office but failed to find her, prompting him and their son to search for her.

PLt. Col. Daleen Grace Loreno, deputy chief of the Cadiz City Police Station, said that a person of interest is currently being monitored while the search for witnesses continues.

Loreno added that investigators have not ruled out sexual abuse, and a post-mortem examination is being conducted.

Robbery with homicide may have also been a motive as the perpetrator may have mistakenly believed the victim had already withdrawn the money from the lending firm, Loreno said.*
