The Negros Occidental police have intensified their security measures in all seaports in the province after millions of illegal drugs were intercepted in recent weeks.

The latest was P34 million worth of suspected shabu that was seized during a buy-bust operation in the Escalante City seaport terminal. The suspect had just arrived from Cebu.

Lt. Abegael Donasco, public information officer of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said Col. Leo Pamitan, provincial police director, has already coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard and the Maritime Police to intensify their efforts as well as monitoring and security measures so no illegal drugs can be smuggled into the province.

In January, P10 million worth of drugs were seized in San Carlos City, which also has a port of entry from Cebu.

Also in January, P20 million worth of drugs, which were hidden in a vehicle, were intercepted at the BREDCO Port in Bacolod City. It was detected by a narcotics dog during a random inspection.*
